24TH Cuban Tourism Convention
inaugurated
THE
24th Cuban Tourism Convention began its activities
with a simple opening ceremony led by Minister of
Tourism Manuel Marrero, and with an emphasis on
cultural options for vacationers.
This annual convention, set in
the famous beach resort of Varadero, is also
dedicated to highlighting beautiful spots in the
Jardines del Rey cays, and Britain as a market for
visitors to the island.
The
convention is likewise dedicated to culture and the
integration of tourism into the country’s cultural
life, and had a preview event in Santiago de Cuba,
chosen as the convention venue for 2005.
Rolando
Yero, head of government in that second-most
important city of Cuba, invited convention
participants to visit the dynamic urban center in
eastern Cuba, which was founded as a villa in 1515.
With a
rich history and innumerable sites of interest,
Santiago de Cuba is known as the land of sun and
rum, and as a rebel city, hospitable and heroic, the
cradle of this country’s Revolution, which triumphed
on January 1, 1959.
Presentations by Cuban and Spanish hotel chains, as
well as other entities are expected during the
three-day convention, which concludes Wednesday
night with an award ceremony.
