Panama called on to annul
terrorists’ pardon
TARAPOTO, Peru.-More than 40
Peruvian organizations have called on Martín
Torrijos, the new president of Panama, to annul the
pardon granted by the former government to four
notorious terrorists, PL reports.
The request was agreed in
the closing session of the 5th National Solidarity
with Cuba Encounter, which has been meeting since
last Thursday in this northern Peruvian city.
Delegates agreed to send a
letter to the Panamanian leader asking for the
annulment and calling his attention to the danger
the release of these dangerous criminals represents
for other countries.
A condemnation of terrorism
in all its manifestations is one of the aspects of
the meeting’s final declaration, approved by
acclamation last night.
The delegates also agreed to
reinforce their actions of solidarity with the
island and condemned the aggressive policy of the
United States against its people and Revolution.
Those present at the
encounter agreed that solidarity with Cuba has grown
and become more profound in recent years.
In that context, José
Estévez, Latin American director of the Cuban
Institute of Friendship among the Peoples (ICAP),
highlighted the strong participation and
representative nature of the organizations present
at the meeting.
He noted that there were 186
delegates accredited by 44 organizations, mostly
Peruvian-Cuban Friendship Casas, a total above that
of previous encounters, despite the encounter taking
place in Tarapoto a distant city in the northeast
selva of Peru. |
