U.S. Congress
alert on electoral fraud
WASHINGTON,
October 15 (PL).—The U.S. Congress has warned that
the government lacks response mechanisms to
potential electoral fraud at a point when the
presidential candidates have entered a decisive
phase in terms of the White House seat.
A report
from the Government Accountability Office (GAO)
released yesterday, stated that the Justice
Department has not established procedures to
document electoral irregularities or voter
intimidation.
The agency
stressed that the U.S. executive does not have a
clear policy in response to such eventualities, at a
time when maneuvers have already been reported in
Florida to prevent access to the polls by
10,000-plus people, mostly Blacks and Latinos.
It is
inexcusable that the Justice Department is not
prepared to protect the rights of all U.S. citizens
to vote, was the furious reaction of Democrat Henry
Waxman, representative for California.
