Cuban foreign minister to address UN General
Assembly today
THE Cuban
delegation is continuing its activities in the
framework of the 59th session of the UN General
Assembly.
Foreign
Minister Felipe Pérez Roque was received by the Sam
Njoma, president of Namibia, who transmitted the
solidarity of the government and people of that
country in relation to the damage wreaked by
Hurricanes Charley and Ivan.
The Cuban
minister and the delegation accompanying him also
met with Abdullah Gul, Turkish deputy premier and
foreign minister, and with Pérez Roque’s
counterparts from Belgium and Spain.
In the
context of the general debate, the Cuban foreign
minister participated in a meeting of the
Non-aligned Movement on a high-level panel on
threats, challenges and change established by the UN
secretary general to discuss the Movement’s points
of view on UN reforms.
The Cuban
delegation has met with 30 foreign ministers from
Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and
Europe.
Today, Cuba
is scheduled to speak in the general debate and the
delegation has a meeting with Secretary General Kofi
Annan, among other activities.
