More than 4,000 Panamanians have benefited from
Operation Miracle
HAVANA — Operation Miracle has
benefited thousands of low-income Panamanians who
would not have been able to obtain operations in
their own country, Camilo Alleyne, Panamanian health
minister, told Prensa Latina.
The official expressed his
satisfaction at the implementation of the program,
which has benefited more than 4,000 people by
restoring their eyesight.
After arriving in the Cuban
capital, Alleyne also said that his government has a
joint project with Cuba for establishing an
Operation Miracle headquarters in Panama. This will
allow patients to receive their operations in their
country, and with the experience that Cuba brings,
it will also be a good opportunity for Panamanians
and for the Central American region, he said.
Panama is undergoing a process of
transformation in this sector, and exchanges of
knowledge and technology are contributing to
something that is more important than health, which
is human solidarity, the minister said.
Alleyne is also president of
Health Agenda for the Americas, a continent-wide
agency to which Cuba also belongs. (PL)
