Felipe Calderón sworn in as
president of Mexico
MEXICO. — Felipe Calderón was sworn in today,
Friday, at 06:00 GMT as the constitutionally-elected
president of Mexico, in a transfer of power ceremony
unprecedented in this country’s history.
At
the event in the Los Pinos presidential residence,
Calderón received the national flag that will
accompany him throughout the six years of his
mandate.
Before and after the official ceremony, which
included the presence of his newly-appointed
Cabinet, outgoing President Vicente Fox handed over
the presidential sash that is to be worn by the new
president at the National Congress today, in the San
Lázaron Legislative Palace.
During the ceremony, Calderón also swore in his
secretaries of defense, the Navy, national security
and government.
The
investiture ceremony with the presidential sash was
set for 9:30 a.m. local time (PL)
