Bouteflika receives Felipe Pérez Roque
ALGIERS, March 21.—Felipe Pérez
Roque, Cuban minister of foreign affairs, was
received today by the president of Algeria,
Abdela-Aziz Bouteflika, with whom he discussed
bilateral relations, according to official sources.
The minister arrived in Algiers
this morning on a working visit and after a brief
meeting with his Algerian colleague, Mohamed
Bedyaui, was received by Bouteflika in the
presidential headquarters.
The Algerian foreign minister
today highlighted the good relations between the two
countries in relation to this visit and quoted the
sectors in which there is Cuban cooperation.
As one example, he recalled that
Cuba is rehabilitating an ophthalmology clinic in
Bechar province in the south of the country, and
which is about to be inaugurated.
Another three centers of the same
kind are to be established in Algiers, Uargla and El
Ued, the latter two Saharian regions where eye
diseases such as conjunctivitis and glaucoma affect
a considerable part of the population due to the
effects of sandstorms.
Cuban has facilitated Algeria
with the necessary knowledge to start producing a
vaccine against Hepatitis B in 2008, as Algerian
Health Minister Amar Tou announced recently. (EFE)
