Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau
continues agenda in Cuba
HAVANA, January 31 (PL).— Arístides Gomes, prime
minister of Guinea Bissau, is continuing his stay in
Cuba with an agenda that encompasses the closure of
the 8th Session of the Joint Intergovernmental
Commission.
According to the agenda for his visit – that
concludes tomorrow – Gomes will head his delegation
for the finale of the commission, the purpose of
which is to increase bilateral links in areas such
as education, health and biotechnology.
He is also due to meet with Fernando Remírez de
Estenoz, head of the International Relations
Department of the Central Committee of the Communist
Party of Cuba and Education Minister Luis Ignacio
Gómez.
The prime minister spoke the previous day with
representatives of the thousands of Cubans who took
part in internationalist missions in Africa,
particularly those who fought for the independence
of Guinea Bissau.
Gomes highlighted the participation of Cubans, not
only in the fight for emancipation, but also in the
construction of the nation. “We consider them to be
Guineans,” he added.
Prior to this, the visitor placed a wreath at the
pantheon for Cuban internationalist combatants who
died during the struggle for independence in African
nations, at Colón Cemetery in Havana.
