First place in Women’s World Cup judo
THE
Cuban women’s judo team finished in first place at
the Women’s Judo World Cup which took place last
weekend in Vienna, Austria, according to a report
from Prensa Latina.
With
two victories on the final day, the Cubans notched
up five medals giving them their lead position in
the Cup.
Yurisel Laborde won in the final of the 78kg
category against Canadian Amy Cottom, while Ibis
Dueñas – in the 78kg-plus group – defeated Russian
Anadi Mijitarian.
Next
week, the Cuban women are set to compete in a
tournament in Germany, constituting the fourth stop
on their preparatory tour of Europe.
During the trip, they have taken part in
competitions in Belgium, France and Austria in which
they have accumulated nine gold medals, four silver
and six bronze.
