Cohiba and Montecristo, main
attractions of Habano Festival
THE
9th Festival of the Habano — from February 26 to
March 2 in Cuba — is featuring as its main
attractions the launching of the Cohiba Maduro cigar
and the new Reserva de Montecristo, which features
leaves that have all been aged for three years.
According to the organizers of this cigar fest, the
Cohiba Maduro line is a mix of incomparable
characteristics, being “the most elite brand of all
the Habanos, and with a mature wrapper, which is
obtained from the top part of the plant and
withstands longer aging. To date, mature wrappers
can only be found in limited editions.”
On
this occasion, as on previous ones, the famous
auction will be held featuring humidors signed by
President Fidel Castro. Five lots of humidors built
by master Cuban artisans, with cigars especially
hand-rolled for the occasion, will be auctioned off.
And as in previous editions of the festival, the
money raised from the auction will go to the
national health system.
Every year, the auction raises about half a million
dollars and 6,000 euros, for a total of more than $5
million donated to Cuban health care.
Habanos S.A. also announced a new publicity campaign
for its best-known brands: Cohiba, Montecristo,
Partagás, Romeo y Julieta, Hoyo de Monterrey and H.
Upmann.
The
festival’s activities include visits to the famous
plantations of Vuelta Abajo, in Pinar del Río, and
factories where the Cohiba and Montecristo are
hand-rolled, as well as master classes in
cigar-rolling, where every participant has the
opportunity to make his or her own cigar.
The
Habanos S.A. is a world leader in the premium cigar
market, and distributes its product both in Cuba and
throughout the world, via an exclusive distribution
network with outlets in more than 120 countries.
