Resistance causes U.S. casualties in
Baghdad and Al Anbar
BAGHDAD, February 19 (PL)—. The western Iraqi
province of Al Anbar is an open grave for U.S.
troops, who have reinforced their occupation
strategy there but are continuing to lose soldiers
in resistance attacks.
The U.S. military command notified the death of one
of its soldiers in this territory, where he was
forced to enter into combat with the resistance.
A
Marine Corps troop who was taking part in combat
operations lost his life in western Iraq, according
to a brief communiqué that did not identify the
deceased.
Washington’s new strategy for this Arab country
contemplates the increase of some 4,000 soldiers to
face the resistance in the strategic zone of Al
Anbar.
In this western province, which borders Syria, lie
the cities of Ramadi and Falluyah, considered
strongholds of the insurgence.
The other priority in the plan of U.S. President
George W. Bush is Baghdad, where the vast majority
of the 21,500 troops who are to support those
already playing in this theater of operations will
be deployed. |
