Raúl Castro praises success of
Western Army training
By María Julia Mayoral—Granma daily—
OPERATION Caguairán, begun in
Cuba in mid-2006 with the objective of training and
improving troop mobilization and deployment as well
as the systematic preparation of reservists and
militia members, is successfully underway in the
territory covered by the Western Army, according to
General of the Army Raúl Castro Ruz, second
secretary of the Party and minister of the
Revolutionary Armed Forces. He affirmed that the
task is being carried out with similar effectiveness
throughout the rest of the country.
This
Army and all of the Armed Forces have fully earned,
in a way that they rarely have done until now, the
description of outstanding, Raúl said, at the
conclusion of the Military Council.
According to Army Corps General
Alvaro López Miera, deputy minister and chief of the
General Staff, changes have been implemented to
establish procedures that can ensure greater combat
capacity and readiness for reservists and militia
members, as well as precise and regular information
on the composition of those forces.
According to Army Corps General
Leopoldo Cintra Frías, chief of the Western Army,
when referring to Operation Caguairán, it must be
noted that the troops mobilized have responded in an
excellent manner, and that in their vast majority
they have shown a high level of disposition,
discipline and interest in carrying out the task.
Attendance has been better than ever, he said.
Cintra Frías also praised the political events
organized by workplace and community to give
recognition to the attitude taken by those comrades
before they go to join their FAR units and after
they return to their everyday civilian lives.
Pedro Sáez, president of the City
of Havana Provincial Defense Council, noted that
Operation Caguairán has made it possible to increase
the mobilization and combat preparation of command
and leadership bodies, putting the region in a
better situation for successfully facing any enemy
aggression.
