Iraqi resistance continues wearing
down the occupying forces
BAGHDAD, February 23 (PL).—A U.S. soldier died and
another three were wounded when their vehicle
activated a bomb close to the Iraqi city of
Diwaniyah in the continuance of insurgent actions
that are eroding and demoralizing the occupiers.
The
U.S. command reported that the attack in that
southern area occurred at 02:00 local time.
That death brings the total of U.S. soldiers killed
in Iraq since the invasion in March 2003 to 3,152.
So far in February, the United States has lost 67
troops in Iraq, a number of them in helicopters
brought down by the resistance.
Media references to the U.S. Department of Defense
statistics place the number of wounded at more than
23,400.
The media also reported this Friday that U.S.
soldier Paul Cortez was sentenced to 100 years’
imprisonment for raping an Iraqi girl and
subsequently murdering her and her family.
