Iraqi resistance continues wearing down the occupying forces

BAGHDAD, February 23 (PL).—A U.S. soldier died and another three were wounded when their vehicle activated a bomb close to the Iraqi city of Diwaniyah in the continuance of insurgent actions that are eroding and demoralizing the occupiers.

That death brings the total of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the invasion in March 2003 to 3,152.

So far in February, the United States has lost 67 troops in Iraq, a number of them in helicopters brought down by the resistance.

Media references to the U.S. Department of Defense statistics place the number of wounded at more than 23,400.

The media also reported this Friday that U.S. soldier Paul Cortez was sentenced to 100 years’ imprisonment for raping an Iraqi girl and subsequently murdering her and her family.
