Fina García Marruz wins Ibero-American Pablo Neruda Prize

SANTIAGO DE CHILE.—The prestigious Ibero-American Pablo Neruda Poetry Prize has been awarded this year to the Cuban poet and essayist Fina García Marruz, Culture Minister Paulina Urrutia announced this Wednesday, having first informed the winner personally by phone, PL reports.

The announcement was made at a press conference, together with the jury, composed of Chilean academic Ana Pizarro, Peruvian writer Carlos Germán Belli and Cuban poet and essayist Roberto Fernández Retamar.

Fina García Marruz, about to turn 84 and winner of her country’s National Literature Prize, emotively expressed her thanks for the award, to be presented by President Michelle Bachelet during the Ibero-American Culture Ministers Summit, in July in Santiago.
