Raúl verifies progress made by Pinar del Río
Military Region
BY María Julia Mayoral—Granma
daily—
NEVER before, except during the
Bay of Pigs invasion and the October [Missile]
Crisis, has Cuban undertaken within its territory a
mobilization process of such magnitude involving its
permanent troops, reserves and Territorial Troop
Militias (MTT) as the current Operation Caguairán,
General of the Army Raúl Castro Ruz affirmed after
observing the situation in the Pinar del Río
Military Region.
He described the operation
underway as a “gigantic task” that adds to the
growing and complex missions carried out by the
Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) in recent years.
Operation Caguairán takes its name from a hardy
Cuban tree, as a symbol of strength in the
safeguarding of our nation, whose people are
constantly increasing their comprehensive defense
preparation for obvious reasons: the presence of an
enemy bent on destroying the Revolution.
Following José Martí’s teachings
on “plan against plan,” we have many to deal with
any type of adversity or exceptional situation, Raúl
commented, alluding to U.S. government projects as
he took part in an exchange with members of a light
infantry mountain brigade stationed in the
Guaniguanico region of the Sierra de los Órganos
mountain range.
The minister particularly noted
the combat disposition and unity of these troops
who, like many others, are charged with defending
the country’s mountainous areas.
Operation Caguairán is making
progress in its second stage with greater
organization and efficiency, Raúl affirmed. Its
distinctive traits include a staggered mobilization,
making it possible to significantly increase quality
of training for reservists and militia members as
well as their command and leadership bodies, and
utilizing the infrastructure of regular troops
without the need for large investments, he
explained.
“We are convinced that with our
ideology, the national unity achieved and the
strategic concept of the War of the All the People,
this Revolution will be invincible,” he stated. “If
they attack us, we will pay the price that must be
paid, but the price that will be paid by anyone who
tries to attack this country will be much greater.”
Raúl, who talked with combatants
about Fidel’s progressive recovery, assured them he
would tell their Commander-in-Chief in detail about
what he saw during his tour of the western region,
and that there was doubtless good reason to feel
pride and satisfaction when considering their many
achievements.
