Denzil Douglas acknowledges Cuba’s
solidarity
JAGUEY GRANDE, Matanzas.— Denzil Douglas, prime
minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, has expressed his
gratitude for Cuba’s contribution of solidarity in
providing nursing training for young people from his
country.
The
Caribbean leader said that it was a tangible way of
measuring the level of satisfaction with respect to
bilateral relations, after hearing more from the 27
students who are currently training as nurses at the
Mario Raudillo Fleitas School, situated close to the
Jaguey Grande neighborhood.
“Once you have graduated, you are going to have a
positive impact on our healthcare system,” he said.
“The people will recognize that eternally,” he
added, after stating that it is the aim of the Saint
Kitts and Nevis authorities to increase enrollment.
He stated that it would be extremely convenient to
increase the current figure given the great need the
small Caribbean nation has for qualified healthcare
staff.
Maria Magdalena González Ortega, director of the
center, explained to the honorable visitor and his
delegation that a total of 351 young Caribbean
people were training as nurses at the center,
including students from Jamaica, Saint Lucía and
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
She
specified that the center specializes in a training
model based on a system of moral, ethical, esthetic
and cultural values with the aim of developing an
integral nurse capable of taking care of the health
of the family and the community.
