THE medal commemorating the 50th anniversary of
the founding of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX)
was awarded this Wednesday to the leader of the
Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz, President Raúl
Castro Ruz and, posthumously, to Commander of the
Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque, in an event in the
capital.
Foreign
Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla presented the
award to Raúl and handed him those assigned to Fidel
and Almeida.
"We have had the privilege of the leadership of
the man who has been the guide and conductor of
revolutionary foreign policy, Commander in Chief
Fidel Castro Ruz who, with his clear and universal
thinking, his ethics and firm principles, profound
understanding of the adversary, his undisputed
intuition for defining tactics and strategy, has
guided our work," affirmed Rodríguez Parrilla.
He likewise recalled the brilliant work of Raúl
Roa García (deceased), who headed MINREX during its
first 17 years, christened by the people "the
Foreign Minister of Dignity."
He also alluded to the writings and wisdom of
Carlos Rafael Rodríguez, another revolutionary
leader with an undisputed contribution to the
Revolution’s foreign policy up until his death.
In his speech the Cuban foreign minister
highlighted the trajectory of Ministry workers
alongside the people in all the tasks of the nation
and in standing up to the acts of aggression
suffered by the homeland, as well as those
perpetrated against them while working abroad.
In representation of the 388 personnel who have
worked at MINREX for more than 25 years, the 50th
Anniversary Medal was awarded to 16 founder members.
Also present at the commemorative musical event
were Melba Hernández, Heroine of Moncada; family
members of the five Cuban anti-terrorist heroes
unjustly incarcerated in the United States; and
political and state leaders. (AIN)
