Resounding
victory for Evo
LA
PAZ, December 6.—"Today, Bolivia is once again
demonstrating its democratic vocation and that it is
possible to change," affirmed Evo Morales of the
Movement Toward Socialism (MAS) this Sunday, after a
convincing re-electoral victory of more than 63% of
the vote.
In his speech addressing thousands of emotional
supporters from the Government Palace in Murillo
Plaza, President Morales emphasized that the
Bolivian victory fundamentally constitutes a
recognition of anti-imperialist governments and
peoples, and expressed his thanks for this
opportunity to continue working for Bolivian
equality and unity.
The president, whose investiture for the period
2010 to 2015 takes place on January 22, gave his
commitment to accelerate the process of social
changes that is taking place in the nation alongside
his vice president, Alvaro García Linera, and in the
face of a possible majority in the Senate, with 25
senators out of 36, as indicated by poll surveys.
The elections had the mass participation of the
Andean people, in addition to the incredible figure
of 140,000 votes from abroad, constituting the first
elections in the framework of the new constitution
promoted by Evo, which declares Bolivia a
plurinational state.
At the same time, Morales called on the
opposition to work for Bolivia within a government
that "emerges from the people and is for the people."
