The foreign minister of the United Mexican States stated during a press conference at the Casa Benito Juárez in Old Havana, that the objective of her visit is to continue strengthening political dialogue between the two nations.

She also highlighted a bilateral interest in intensifying economic, commercial and financial relations, and cooperation in the scientific-technical and educational spheres.

Likewise, she stated that her visit – in response to an invitation from her Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla – served to define joint acts of cooperation "that will contribute to social development;" to permit the "legal, safe and ordered" flow of migrants and increase cooperation in combating drug-trafficking and organized crime.

Hours before, the official spoke with Rodríguez at the MINREX headquarters and tackled diverse issues of common interest that form part of the 4th Cuba-Mexico Information and Political Consultation Permanent Mechanism Meeting.

During the meeting, the Mexican minister thanked the government of the Cuban nation on behalf of herself and her delegation for having organized this visit, and stated that bilateral relations are notable for their solidarity and agreement over objectives and challenges faced.

For his part, Bruno Rodríguez highlighted Mexico’s position at the UN in support of the lifting of the blockade imposed on Cuba, and for the reestablishment of international law and full trade freedoms for the island. •
