Raúl meets with
South African Foreign Minister
CUBAN
President Raúl Castro Ruz met this Wednesday with
Mrs. Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, minister of
international relations and cooperation of the
Republic of South Africa, shortly before she
concluded her official visit to Cuba.
The frank and cordial talks covered bilateral
relations and ways of strengthening them, above all
in the economic sphere; current tasks and problems
facing both countries; and international matters.
Raúl asked the foreign minister to pass on
greetings to President Jacob Zuma and the people of
the sister African nation, and reaffirmed Cuba’s
gratitude for their unwavering solidarity.
Nkoana-Mashabane also conveyed a warm message for
Fidel and Raúl from the South African president. She
affirmed that her country’s support for Cuba is part
of the long friendship that unites them, as well as
Cuba’s contribution to South Africa, manifested in
the past by the island’s support for the struggle of
the South African people against the racist regime
and, now, for their development and well-being,
particularly in the spheres of public health and
professional training.
Also present at the meeting were Marcelino Medina
González, acting minister of foreign affairs, and
Phatse Justice Piitso, the South African ambassador
in Cuba.
