DURING its 45th anniversary celebrations
yesterday, the José Antonio Echeverría University
City (CUJAE) awarded an honorary doctorate to the
leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.
José Ramón Fernández, vice president of the
Council of Ministers, received the award from Alicia
Alonso Becerra, rector of the institution, on behalf
of Fidel, "who is a consubstantial part of CUJAE’s
history."
Alonso Becerra noted that generations of young
people have graduated from the college and made
their presence felt in the country’s economic and
social development.
"Thank you Fidel, for converting into reality the
dream of José Antonio Echeverría, for being the
forger of the new men and women, for promoting
everything that can ennoble the dignity and
development of human beings," she affirmed.
Miguel Díaz-Canel, member of the Political Bureau
and minister of higher education, called on students
and workers at the institution to put all their
scientific potential into the search for means of
increasing productivity and reducing imports.
"This is a college that promotes our culture and
our sport and which, together with its firm ideology
and humanistic action – sets the bases for the
modern university to which we aspire," Díaz-Canel
emphasized.
On this occasion, 10 emeritus professors received
the CUJAE 45th Anniversary Plaque for their
