"TAKING as the premise the Martí maxim that ‘To
honor, honors,’ allow us, compañero Zhao
Rongxian, to confer on you, on behalf of the Council
of State, the Medal of Friendship, as a
demonstration of our recognition of the effort made
by the Chinese diplomatic mission and yourself in
the promotion and development of relations between
our two countries, and the cooperation and smooth
links of work and friendship maintained with the
Cuban authorities and, in particular, with our
Ministry."
Those
were the words of Alberto Blanco, director of the
Asia and Oceania Office at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, during the ceremony in which Zhao Rongxian,
ambassador of the People’s Republic of China,
received the Medal of Friendship from Foreign
Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, in recognition of
his outstanding participation in undertakings
directed at attaining a more just society, as well
as to increasing fraternal ties, cooperation and
mutual aid in countries that respect the principles
of sovereignty and self-determination.
In the presence of Ricardo Cabrisas Ruz, vice
president of the Council of Ministers; Jorge Martí
Martínez, head of the International Relations
Department of the Central Committee of the Communist
Party; and Kenia Serrano Puig, president of the
Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples,
Blanco noted that the four years that of Zhao’s
ambassadorship have been the scenario of important
events in Cuban-Chinese relations, which have helped
to consolidate their strategic nature.
He also highlighted the ambassador’s intensive and
fruitful work in the economic and commercial sector,
which has contributed to the successful outcome of
many joint projects.
In his turn, Zhao recalled that he studied in Cuba
and began his diplomatic mission here, continuing
with four years as ambassador, and promised to
continue working to promote closer relations between
the two nations.
