President
Raúl Castro Ruz checked on the status of the actions
planned for the first day of the 2009 Bastión
Strategic Exercise, which began on Thursday
throughout the entire country.
In the morning, Raúl
listened to reports from Western, Central and
Eastern military leaders about the operating
situation that underlies the 2009 Bastión, the
period of crisis that precedes a large scale
military aggression by an enemy, such as measures
adopted by organs of the leadership and command to
increase combative will for the defense of the
territories.
The president of the Council
of National Defense greeted the participants,
wishing them success and calling on them to pay
attention to each detail of this important exercise.
He checked on the status of the operation with each
chief, emphasizing those in charge of affairs
relating to assuring the safety of the population,
in particular heath care and preparations to reach,
if it is necessary, higher stages of combative
willingness to defend the nation.
He insisted on the
importance of a principle expressed by our Commander
in Chief and present in the combative traditions of
our nation: to fight relentlessly until definitive
victory, no matter how difficult the circumstances
are.
He stated everyone’s
satisfaction at seeing officials like division
general Aguilera Bermúdez, current chief of the
Eastern Army, the first graduate of the Camilo
Cienfuegos Military Schools who has reached such a
high post.
Also present were José Ramón
Machado Ventura, vice president of the Council of
National Defense, Army Core General Julio Casas
Regueiro, minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces,
and Army Core General Abelardo Colomé Ibarra, the
minister of the interior, as well as other high
ranking chiefs and officials.
