Evo Morales
makes plea for a democratic and peaceful campaign
LA PAZ, September 8.— Bolivian President Evo
Morales has urged the eight political parties
participating in the December 6 general elections to
run democratic and peaceful campaigns, PL reported.
In
a press conference at the Quemado Palace, the
president condemned aggressions against certain
candidates the previous day, when the different
opposition parties were registering their
participation.
"I was also a victim of attacks in 2002 and 2005
and, most recently, as president, last year with the
civilian coups, the taking and sacking of
nationalized institutions or the sabotage of
hydrocarbon plants, actions plotted by the right,"
he stated.
By the close of the registration period, the
National Electoral Court of Bolivia had officially
recorded eight parties presenting their lists of
candidates.
The political parties registered are: the
governing Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS), Plan
Progreso para Bolivia (PPB), Unidad Nacional (UN),
Alianza Social (AS) and Pueblos por la Libertad y
Soberanía (PULSO).
The Movimiento de Unidad Social Patriótica (MUSPA),
Bolivia Social Demócrata (BSD) and GENTE have
likewise registered official candidates.
