Evo Morales
calls for bringing dignity to Bolivia’s justice
system
SUCRE, Bolivia, February 18.— President Evo
Morales made a call to bring dignity to Bolivia’s
justice system during a ceremony where he swore in
13 members of the Constitutional Court, the Supreme
Court, and the Judiciary Council, PL reports.
Morales
affirmed that this date is a historic one since it
marks the beginning of the decolonization of
judicial power in the country, which has been
questioned for decades on account of its
manifestations of corruption and dependence on
foreign powers.
The head of state urged magistrates to ennoble
and honor the profession, including from the
universities, and to defend the homeland as
established by the political constitution of the
state effective since February, 2009.
He explained that these appointments were made
under the Provisional Law approved by Parliament,
which authorizes him to nominate temporary officials
for these posts until the December 5 elections. He
consulted social organizations and specialists as to
decisions on the appointments.
Morales called on the legal officials to be
rigorous in their work and, if necessary, not to
fail to sanction members of the executive, including
himself as president, in the case of demonstrated
crimes or irregularities.
