Brazilian authorities express solidarity with the five Cuban heroes

RECIFE, BRAZIL (PL)— While touring various municipalities of the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, a Cuban delegation was greeted by expressions of solidarity with the five Cubans illegally held in the United States.

Cuba’s representatives were received in the Municipal Legislative Assembly of Recife, the state capital, as well as by its governor, Mendonça Filho, and the mayor of Ingaraçú municipality, Severino de Saouza Silva.

In an official legislative session, Josenildo Sinezio and Joao Arraes, president of the assembly and the municipality, respectively, called for the release of the five Cuban heroes.

Sinezio said that Washington has no right to impose a blockade on Cuba that impedes access to scientific and economic resources and much less any justification for incarcerating five individuals for preventing acts of terrorism against their country.

In addition, Arraes read out a commemorative plaque prepared for the occasion, which he presented to Cuban Ambassador Pedro Núñez Mosquera.

As part of the event the film The Story of Five Men was shown and Mirta Rodríguez Pérez expressed her appreciation of the display of solidarity with Cuba and with her son Antonio Guerrero Rodríguez.

Similar scenes were repeated in the meetings between the Cuban delegation and Governor Mendonça Filho, of the Liberal Front Party, and Ingaraçú Mayor Severino de Souza Silva, of the Brazilian Socialist Party.

These activities were a prelude to this Saturday’s inauguration of the Brazil-Cuba Solidarity Convention sponsored by organizations in favor of Bolivarian integration.
